AI and privacy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
The short version
- One AI provider: Google Gemini (Gemini Flash-Lite, with Gemini Flash as a backup). No other AI company receives your sessions.
- Nabad uses Gemini's paid service. Under Google's terms, Google does not use what Nabad sends to improve its products, and people at Google do not review it for that purpose.
- Nabad sends words, not people. No email addresses, IP addresses or device details are ever sent. A participant's name is sent in one case only, explained below.
- AI insights and spam flags stay on the host's screen. Participants' phones never receive them.
- Nabad does not train any AI model on your sessions.
What the AI does
- Translating answers on the presenter screen. The text of an answer goes to Gemini and comes back in the room's languages. Every plan. Shown on the host's screen.
- Translating answers on phones (Pro). Each phone sees other people's answers in its own language. Up to 300 characters per answer are sent.
- Translating questions in the editor. When a host writes a question, its text and options are translated into the audience languages. The host can edit any translation before the session starts.
- Spam and off-topic check. Written answers and Q&A questions are checked so the host can hide spam faster. Only the host sees the flags, and the AI never hides anything on its own. Every plan.
- Mood and themes (Pro). The 100 most recent answers to an open question or a Q&A are grouped into themes with an overall mood. Host only.
- Word cloud groups (Pro). The 50 most frequent words, with how often each was given, are grouped by meaning. The groups are part of the word cloud, so phones see them too.
- Session recap (Pro). After a session, its title, questions, vote counts and up to 25 written answers per question are summed up for the host. The recap is saved with the session and emailed to the host, unless the host turns the email off.
- Name spelling. When a participant types a name in Arabic letters or in Latin letters, Gemini suggests a spelling in the other alphabet. Only the name is sent, with nothing else, and the participant accepts it, corrects it or turns it down.
What is never sent
Email addresses, IP addresses, device and browser details, account details and payment details are never sent to the AI. Participants' names are never sent with their answers, and Q&A display names are never sent at all. One thing to keep in mind: a written answer is sent as it was typed, so anything a participant writes in it goes with it.
What Google does with it
Nabad uses the paid service of the Gemini API. Under Google's terms for paid use, Google does not use prompts or responses to improve its products, and does not have people review them for that purpose. Google keeps them for a limited time, only to detect misuse of its service, and processes them under its data processing terms as Nabad's processor. You can read Google's Gemini API terms.
Where it is processed
Nabad's servers are in the United States. The Gemini API does not let Nabad choose a processing region, so Google may process requests outside Canada. Nabad is testing AI processing in Google's Montréal region and will update this page if it moves.
What is kept, and for how long
- Translations: up to 6 hours in a short-term cache, so the same answer is not translated twice. The cache finds a translation by a scrambled fingerprint of the original text.
- Mood, themes and word cloud groups: 2 minutes, while the session is live.
- Spam flags: up to 6 hours.
- Name spellings: up to 30 days, so a returning name is spelled the same way.
- Recaps: saved with the session until the host deletes it.
- Quality log: to check that the AI does a good job, Nabad keeps the input and output of mood, theme, word cloud and recap runs for 90 days, along with the times a host corrects a translation or overrules a spam flag. Live translations, spam checks and name spellings are not logged. Only Nabad's team can read the log.
When a host deletes a session for good, or deletes their account, its quality log entries are deleted with it. The short-term caches above are not tied to a session, so they expire on their own: 6 hours for translations, 30 days for name spellings.
Who stays in control
- The AI suggests. It never hides an answer, changes a vote or removes a participant.
- Hosts can edit every question translation before the session.
- Participants decide whether to use the spelling suggested for their name.
- What people type is treated as data. If an answer contains instructions to the AI, they are translated or sorted like any other text, not followed.
- If a translation cannot arrive in time, phones show the original answer instead of nothing.
- Not available yet: a switch that turns all AI off for one session. If you need a session with no AI at all, write to us before it starts.
